Men's Track and Field | 04.22.2022

LA GRANDE, Ore. Christian Bothwell wrapped up a career weekend at the 2022 Cascade Conference Track and Field Multi-Event Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, on Saturday with 6,199 points in the decathlon. The junior finished third to lead LC State and earn the first All-Cascade Conference honors of his career. The mark puts him in the nation's top 10 and earned six points towards the team total heading into the full conference meet.

A total of four Warriors earned points. The men totaled nine points and the women have one.

"Pretty good weekend for the boys," Hall said. "Obviously it was up and down. We came out a little rusty in the hurdles, but we bounced back and finished strong. Christian was in third, Caleb was seventh and Ian was ninth so they all got us points in the team score so that is a big deal. Christian was great today with big PRs in the discus and pole vault, then took care of business in the javelin and 1,500m. Really happy for him. He has been putting in a lot of work this year to get better.

"Really happy for Caleb, who no-heighted in his last two decathlon pole vaults, so he was able to get over that hump. This was a good learning experience for Ian. He hung in there and got us some points," Hall added.

THE MEN
Bothwell finished third overall with 6,199 points, the second-most in LC State history. The junior hit big personal-bests in the pole vault (4.00m) and discus (37.17m) to place second and third, respectively. He was second in the javelin (46.03m), ran a career-best 1,500m (4:51.42) to take third, and was seventh in the 110m hurdles (16.70).

Caleb Moore earned two points for LC with his seventh-place mark (5,322). He was fourth in the 110m hurdles (16.52), sixth in the discus (32.79m) and pole vault (3.70m), seventh in the 1,500m (5:30.84) and ninth in the javelin (37.02m).

Ian Gardom earned a point after taking eighth (4,421). The freshman was sixth in the 1,500m (5:27.19), finished tied with Bothwell for seventh in the 110m hurdles (16.70), 10th in the pole vault (2.10m) and javelin (35.45m), and 11th in the discus (22.45m).

THE WOMEN
Carpenter wrapped up her first CCC multi with an eighth-place finish (4,144 points) to earn a point in the team standings heading into the full conference meet. The freshman placed seventh in the long jump (5.17m), 10th in the javelin throw (27.90m) and 14th in the 800m (2:48.67).

Sara Hathaway finished 11th overall with 3,965 points. She took ninth in the long jump (4.90m) and in the 800m (2:39.58), and was 15th in the javelin (15.66m).

Makayla McIntosh placed 14th in her first CCC multi with a total of 3,443 points. She was 13th in the javelin (25.36m), 14th in the long jump (4.57m) and 15th in the 800m (3:15.60).

"The girls just didn't have it this weekend," coach Cryus Hall said. "We had high expectations for them, but they are young and don't have a lot of experience just yet. We did some good things. They competed hard, the effort was there but the execution wasn't quite there. Makayla PRd in four of five events this weekend, so she did really well. Hopefully this is a learning experience for them in their first time competing in the Cascade multi. Jennah scored a point for us in eighth place, so that is something we are happy about."

Select Warriors will be in action at the OSU High Performance Meet in Corvallis April 29-30, and the last regular-season meet will be the Tom Gage Classic in Missoula on May 7.
