Carpenter Sets High Jump Record, Women’s DMR Hits National Standard at Whitworth Invite

RESULTS

SPOKANE, Wash. Jennah Carpenter strengthened her hold on the LC State high jump record on Friday with a mark of 1.70m as part of the Whitworth Invite's pentathlon. Carpenter, along with the women's distance medley relay, hit automatic-qualifying marks for indoor nationals.

THE WOMEN

Carpenter hit the second-highest mark in the NAIA this season with her height of 1.70m. She won the high jump portion of the pentathlon and finished second in the event with 3,340 points. The sophomore finished second in the shot put (9.80m) and the long jump (5.29m), seventh in the 60m hurdles (9.50) and 12th in the 800m (2:44.58) to earn the second-highest point total in LC State history. She currently ranks seventh in the NAIA in the pentathlon.

Sara Hathaway finished fifth in the combined events with a total of 3,100 points. She won the 60m dash with a time of 9.09, took fourth in the long jump (4.98m), fifth in the high jump (1.58m), 11th in the 800m (2:42.43) and 13th in the shot put (7.98m). Her total hits the national standard, but only the top 16 will be taken.

The women's distance medley relay ran an A standard time of 12:22.61 to finish third overall. The team of Grace Tiegs, Emily Collins, Geraldin Correa and Brooklyn Shell ran the fourth-fastest time in program history.

Cynthia Smith hit a career-best height of 3.37m to finished seventh in the pole vault. She sits second in LC State history with the mark. Emberlynn Mack was eighth (2.92m) and Desiree Winslow was ninth with a personal-best 2.92m.

Grace Osborne placed 25th in the weight throw (1.31m).

THE MEN

Christian Bothwell leads a group of Warriors in the heptathlon with a score of 2,562. He finished sixth in the long jump (6.23m) and shot put (11.64m), seventh in the high jump (1.80m) and 11th in the 60m dash (7.50). Caleb Moore is 13th (2,256) and Ian Gardom is 16th (2,170) heading into the final three events on Saturday.   

The distance medley relay team of Carter Gordon, London Kirk, Cooper Carlson and Kobe Wessels ran a time of 10:20.45 to finish third overall.

Jaycob Atencio led the LC State men in the weight throw with a 20th-place finish (13.61m). Jack Hardee was 25th (12.71m), and both Sam Weller (31st, 11.70m) and Tanner Beltz-Childs (34th, 10.99m) hit personal-bests.

In distance events, Connor Turpin finished ninth in the 5,000m with a time of 15:29.82.
