SPOKANE, Wash. – Warrior Track and Field opened a busy weekend across the region at the Bucs Scoring and Multi in Spokane on Thursday.
Cameron Carrara opened action in his first decathlon and the Warriors saw personal bests in nearly every event.
"A really good first day for our women throwers in Spokane," coach
Mike Collins said. "Almost all of them threw PRs in the hammer today. Very excited for them. Perry (Severijnse) was also, again, just a little bit short on the men's side of hitting that B standard, but as soon as we start getting some warmer weather, I'm sure he will get there. Very pleased with Cameron's first day in his first decathlon as well. Hopefully weather conditions will improve for them there, and we are also hopefully going to get some better weather here in Eugene. Nice run for the distance ladies in the 5,000m. Damaris (Kibiwot) just missed breaking into the LC State top five."
Carrara sits in fifth place after the first five events of the 10-event decathlon. The freshman scored 2,815 points with his top finish being second in the high jump (1.68m). He shattered his previous personal-best in the long jump with a mark of 5.78m. Carrara was seventh in the long jump, 100m (11.90) and shot put (9.62m), and fifth in the 400m (54.66).
LC State had strong showings in the javelin. On the men's side,
Perry Severijnse won the event with a throw that measured 56.51m, and newcomer
Caleb Sprenger was fourth with the fourth-best throw in program history (52.17m).
Gianna Anderson threw a career-best distance for the second straight meet in the javelin to represent the women. The sophomore finished fourth in the field with a mark of 36.56m.
