LEWISTON, Idaho – The throws group for Lewis-Clark State Track and Field added to its depth in the offseason with the addition of four incoming Warriors. LC State will bolster its roster with the signings of Zane Hearne, McKenzie Rajala, Ian Roeber and Reid Thomas.

Zane Hearne – Cambridge, Idaho/Cambridge High School
Hearne hails from Cambridge, Idaho, and helped the Titans to a third-place finish at State. He excels in the throwing events with personal-best marks of 168'3" in the discus and 49'9" in the shot put.

"Very excited about Zane," coach Mike Collins said. "He had extremely good high school marks, and we believe that once we get him into our team environment where he is going to get pushed on an everyday basis and even more work in the weight room, he is going to do some great things. Really looking forward to having him here."

McKenzie Rajala – Ely, Nev./White Pine High School
Rajala joins the Warriors out of Ely, Nev., and White Pine High School where she competed for the Lady Cats for three years. She was a member of Honor Roll and also competed in volleyball, wrestling and soccer. As a member of the school's wrestling team, Rajala helped White Pine to State and regional titles.

"McKenzie is very motivated to improve in her throwing," Collins said. "She was very diversified in high school competing in a multitude of sports, which is great as they all have helped her develop in different ways, and now that she will be focusing on one area, she will be able to funnel her energies into getting better at just that on a year-round basis. It may take a little time for adjustment, but once she starts rolling, you better watch out."

Ian Roeber – Idaho City, Idaho/Spokane Falls CC
Roeber brings collegiate experience as a transfer from Spokane Falls CC. The incoming junior spent the last two seasons with the Sasqutach and had a career-best of 43.2m in the hammer throw. Prior to Spokane Falls, Roeber competed at Idaho City High School and also played football and basketball.

"Coming in with some collegiate experience already will be very beneficial, not only for him, but also for our other throwers," Collins said. "Not only do we have coaching from our coaches, but the more eyes the better and they often learn from each other. Ian is still learning and developing, and we expect him to make some big strides this year."

Reid Thomas – Orofino, Idaho/University of Idaho
Thomas, a native of nearby Orofino, competed at NCAA Division I Idaho for three years and will wrap up his career as a Warrior. At Idaho, Thomas had career bests of 15.01m in the indoor shot put, 15.26m in the weight throw, 16.14m in the outdoor shot put, 44.43m in the discus and 51.42m in the hammer. He won two Idaho State titles in high school in the discus and shot put and was named the 2022 North Idaho Track and Field Player of the Year. He holds the shot put record at Orofino High School.

"After a great career at Idaho, we were excited to find out that Reid still had some eligibility left," Collins explained. "His marks at Idaho put him right on the verge on what it would normally take to qualify for our national championships, so hopefully with some continued improvement, not only will we see that happen, but hopefully have a shot at earning some points and an all-American honor as a Warrior. Got to love those Orofino athletes. Our experience is that they usually have great energy and make others better too."
