MOSCOW, Idaho – The Men's 4x400m relay team earned their spot at the national meet with a stellar run in Moscow on Friday. The team of
Harry Lazenby,
Jordan Castillo,
Preston Cooper and
Trenton Johnson are the first Warrior relay to hit a standard this season, and did so with a time that landed at No. 2 in the record book.
"Generally, a pretty good day. A low-key meet and we greatly appreciate Idaho hosting the meet for us to be able to come up and focus on some things that we need to work on," coach
Mike Collins said. "Probably a big highlight of the day was our men's 4x400m relay hitting the national standard. Nice thing about that is, we ran well, but I really don't think we looked that good, so we've got lots of room to improve there. Lots of PRs in the throws again today, so that's really encouraging as well. Our real focus all year has been on these last two meets as the competition should be really good, and then, hopefully, as we come into true form, both meets should be putting us in a position to hit national standards that we haven't already hit for those that are at that level and ready to go."
Lazenby, Castillo, Cooper and Johnson ran a time of 3:17.45 which is the second-fastest ever by a Warrior team. The time ranks 14
th in the NAIA this season and is good for a B standard.
