LEWISTON, Idaho – The women of (RV) LC State Tennis earned their first win of the season with a 7-0 sweep of NCAA Division III Whitworth on Saturday. The Warriors battled through close sets for the victory.
Newcomers Rylie Gettman and
Lulu Monnayoo teamed up for a dominant 6-1 win in No. 1 singles and
Ana Govea and
Gwyn Heim battled to a 6-3 victory in No. 2 singles to clinch the point.
Rayana Shah pushed her No. 1 singles match to three sets to earn her win. The junior dropped the opening frame before taking the next two with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Monnayoo made quick work of her opponent in the second slot with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Heim dropped just three games in her No. 3 singles contest with a 6-2, 6-1 victory and senior Naira Montero won her No. 4 tilt 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Gettman won a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles before her opponent retired with an injury (7-6(7-5), 4-1), and Govea edged her counterpart in the No. 6 spot 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.
