RESULTS
SPOKANE, Wash. – LC State Track and Field sent its throws group to Spokane on Thursday to compete at the Whitworth Twilight, and the Warriors made a statement. Freshman
Zane Hearne broke the program's 13-year-old record in the discus as the young core continued to edit the record book at LC State. All three LC State javelin throwers had stellar days as well in the early part of the season.
"Another super day by the throwers, very specifically our javelin throwers had a great day today," coach
Mike Collins said. "Cole, Perry and Gianna all were within reach of the national standard, which is exciting. I'm very excited for Gianna as this was her first time out this season. It is special to see her getting this close, and hopefully we will see her get over that mark here within the next week or two."
Hearne claimed the top spot in Warrior history in the discus in the first event of the day. He improved upon his previous personal best by almost two meters with a mark of 47.43m. He placed fourth at the meet.
Alexzander Lambson threw the fourth-best discus distance ever at LC State to finish sixth (45.33m).
Gianna Anderson bettered her hold on the No. 5 spot in the LC State record book in the javelin. The junior threw her implement 40.61m to win the event at the meet.
Perry Severijnse made his return to the field in the javelin and just missed a national standard in his first outing. He finished third overall with a mark of 57.43m. Freshman
Cole Arlint continued to climb the LC State ranks with the third-best throw in Warrior history to finish fourth (56.38m).
Haylee Appleford led the Warrior women in the shot put and discus. The Asotin native was sixth in the shot put (11.97m) and seventh in the discus (37.95m).
Hope Zollman was ninth in the shot put (10.64m) and
Shayvon Williams placed 11
th (10.12m).
Williams hit a PR in the discus to finish eighth (37.40m) and Zollman also had a personal best of 35.76m to place 10
th.
Grace Osborne was 14
th (35.49m) and
Ruby Kessinger was 16
th (34.67m).
Kessinger was the top LC State finisher in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 45.42m to place sixth. Osborne was just behind her in seventh with a personal best 45.32m.
Faith Wersland finished 11
th (42.22m) and Appleford placed 16
th (38.77m).
Reid Thomas led the Warriors in the shot put and hammer throw on the men's side. The senior from Orofino placed second in the shot put (14.60m) with Hearne in 15
th (12.12m) and
Micah Fox in 16
th (11.75m).
Thomas was fifth in the hammer throw (52.20m) while
Ian Roeber was 14
th with a PR of 44.89m. Hearne finished 20
th (37.30m) and Fox hit a personal best mark of 32.55m to place 26
th.
