Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash – The Warrior Women's Tennis team took on Whitman College in its second day of competition in Walla Walla on Sunday. They fought hard but ended up taking the loss by a final of 6-3.
"Today's performance was played with a strong focus and we are coming closer each time to settling into a sustainable competitive mode," coach Kai Fong said. "The players transitioned well from indoors to outdoors seamlessly. Three of the singles went three sets in Whitman's favor."
In doubles action, the strongest performance came from the No. 3 team of Sophie Uhlenkott and Alexis Maison who worked together to take down their opponent 8-7. The No. 1 team of Begona Andres and Laura Diaz fell 8-3, and the duo of Laura Rosselli and Kyla Collier competed in the No. 2 spot and dropped the match 8-4.
In singles play, Collier registered her first 6-0, 6-0 victory. She dominated in the No. 6 spot and did not drop a game. Maison also swept her opponent, taking both sets in the fourth spot with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Andres battled in the top spot, taking the first set but falling by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Rosselli lost the first set in No. 3 singles 7-4, but came back to win the second set 6-1. She fell in set three by a score of 6-1 (7-4, 1-6, 6-1). Uhlenkott won her first set in fifth singles, but fell in the remaining two (5-7, 7-5, 6-1).
The Warrior Women will be back in action on Sunday in Spokane, Wash. taking on Whitworth.
