WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Warrior Women's Tennis earned a hard-fought victory over NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz to open the new season on Friday. Senior
Elisiva Latu clinched the deciding point for LC State in the 5-4 victory.
"What a fitting scenario for our senior,
Elisiva Latu, to clinch the winning point for the Warriors," Head Coach
Kai Fong said. "The players brought a lot of energy to the match and kept it throughout the night on all six courts."
The Warriors trailed 2-1 after doubles play, with
Lina Boylan and
Bonolo Molefe picking up an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
UC Santa Cruz took the top two singles matchups, but the Warriors rallied to finish the match with four individual wins.
Beatriz Lambru took the No. 3 slot with a 6-4, 6-0 win, while
Maria Eduardo Santos da Silva battled to a 6-2, 7-6 victory in the fifth spot. Molefe earned a win at No. 6 singles by scores of 6-4, 6-1, leaving the deciding match to the No. 4 position. Latu came through in her final match as a Warrior with a 7-5, 6-3 victory to clinch the match for LC State.
The Warriors return to the court in the spring. A full schedule will be released in early 2023.
