LEWISTON, Idaho – The women of LC State Tennis opened the short fall season with a hard-fought victory over the University of Alberta out of Canada. The Warriors took the contest 4-3 on their home court behind strong play by the bottom half of the lineup.
LC State took the doubles point after taking the No. 1 and No. 3 matches.
Naiara Montero and
Heidi Moyo teamed up at the top spot to earn a 7-5 victory while
Paige Noble-Lucas and
Gwyn Heim battled to a 7-5 win in the third slot.
The Alberta Pandas took the top three singles matches to take a 3-1 lead in the match, but the Warriors took the final three matches to earn the narrow victory.
Noble-Lucas pushed through three set at No. 4 singles to earn her win. The senior dropped the opening frame before battling back for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory. Sophomore
Carisa Liebenberg took her opponent down in straight sets at No. 5 singles by scores of 6-4, 6-4.
Ana Govea closed out the night with a three-set win in No. 6 singles. She fell in the first frame but rallied to bring home the win for the Warrior women. She took her match by score of 5-7, 6-1, 6-0.
